Values
Delta Tau Delta is a value based fraternity. Founded in 1858, Delta Tau Delta continues to educate its members on the importance of values in their lives. The Fraternity's mission statement is the driving force behind the programs and actions of the Fraternity. By committing ourselves to excellence, Delta Tau Delta is confident that we will continue to have a positive impact on the young men of today and the leaders of tomorrow.
Truth, Courage, Faith and Power Our Foundation
Honest relationships are mandatory for an organization to thrive. Delts always strive to know the truth in every situation. Courage is holding true to your values in the face of adversity. Simply knowing the truth does not help unless you act upon it. Faith means more than just belief in a higher life being. It includes loyalty to yourself and the brotherhood and the determination to do the right thing. Power in the context of Deltism is not physical prowess, but intellectual strength and moral superiority. Through power, we are given the ability to act. However, only through incorporating all four of these principles can one truly embody Deltism.
Integrity is Essential
Fraternities originally formed to promote higher moral standards than those set by colleges and universities. This is still true today. Delts continually strive to act morally and with honor. Integrity also establishes credibility, something that is quite valuable and takes a long time to create.
Accountability is Fundamental to all Commitments
Delts are held accountable for their actions. Yet, we know that no one is perfect and so the Fraternity serves as a safety net to help brothers when college life gets too difficult to handle. The Fraternity is best described as your "family" at college. As such, we can be open and honest with one another to help each other grow as individuals.
Life-Long Learning and Growth are Vital
We have all come to college because we value a good education. However, Delta Tau Delta considers academics our highest priority. We were the first chapter to appoint a Director of Academic Affairs to the international governing board. Through the Delta Tau Delta Educational Foundation, hundreds of thousands of dollars are allocated to numerous education programs. Locally, Gamma Chapter has a very strong academic record. We currently utilize many programs to help brothers meet their goal GPA and to raise our house GPA.
Strengthening the Community is Essential to our Vitality
Community involvement is a central aspect of being a Delt. We strongly believe that there is much to be gained by giving to the community. Specifically, Gamma Chapter participates in the Adopt-A-School program through the Church of the Covenant, Books for the World, Habitat for Humanities, and Adopt-A-Highway. We also annually give thousands of dollars to charitable organizations such as the United Way, Children's Hospital, the American Cancer Society, East Washington Playground Fund, PRYDE, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters with our 24-Hour See-Saw Marathon, Bachelor Auction, and many other events.
Brotherhood Sustains Us
As Delts, we agree to adhere to these values and our mission statement, but the road to travel is very difficult. We believe that only through relying on our brothers, can we achieve these goals and continually aspire to a higher set of standards.
